RCX Level One and Two ~ After School Courses

Introduction to Robotics: - Level One / Two Courses
RCX Mindstroms Platform / This is a non-credit course

Targeted Students: Designated gifted / academically motivated students (ages 9-14) presently enrolled within SD#34 Abbotsford.

Learn about the exciting world of robotics during this introductory course where students will have a hands-on opportunity to design, build, and program a basic robot to interact with its environment. While working in engineering teams of two, each team will have an opportunity to learn the basics of building and programming (ROBOLAB software) using the highly acclaimed Lego Mindstorms RCX platform.

The goals of the courses are to promote an awareness of basic computer programming (engineering / designing) while reinforcing key concepts such as applied physics, math, effective problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.

Prerequisite: Given the constraints of the program, please be advised that it is required and expected that students will be able to work cooperatively with others, follow directions, work on-task, function within the lab / team setting, and be respectful of both the equipment and others. This program is NOT advisable for students with behavioral or social needs.

Space is limited, so reserve your spot today. Maximum 20 students per course.

Level One Courses:
October 2008, January 2009, April 2009

Level Two Courses:
November 2008, February 2009, May 2009 - Full with waiting list
May dates are: 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28.
