Summer Camps 2022: Camp Two

Theme:  Introduction to the "Physics of Flight" - Digital Design - Fabrication - Coding
Description: In this introductory half-day hands-on STEM camp, students will learn all about the exciting science behind how airplanes fly. In addition to learning about the physics of flight, students will also create a number of paper airplanes and foamboard gliders to help demonstrate the science concepts. Participants will learn to design digital files for the 3D printer and laser cutter. The camp is full of unique extras that will make for a fantastic STEM learning opportunity. Snacks are not provided - students must bring their own nut-free snacks and water. For participants that took the camp last year, we recommend that you signup for our afternoon camp that week. Participants in this camp will be invited to a special Airshow experience - Thursday, August 10 - special tour and meet airshow performers - exact plan TBD.
Course Dates:  Monday to Friday, July 31, August 1, 2, 3, 4, 2023
Day and Time: 9am to 12pm (/ Half-day camp
Ages: 9+
Cost: $260.00 + tax
Instructor: Mr. Dereck Dirom and Mr. Rich Whitman
Note: Participants need to bring peanut-free snacks/lunch suitable for a summer camp - a refillable water bottle is recommended.
Unique Features:
  • Introduction to the physics of flight - ground school concepts
  • Design and make a foam board glider to take home at the end of the camp
  • Learn digital fabrication skills using InkScape and a TroTec laser cutter (special thanks to TroTec Canada for supplying the laser cutter for our camp)
  • Program a TelloEDU drone using Python
  • During the 4 days of the camp, participants will get to tour the following: NAV Canada (control tower), Abbotsford Airport Operations, and various aerospace companies at the airport - tour schedule TBD.
  • Special access to the Abbotsford International Airshow performers and VIPs - performers and VIPs TBD.
  • All materials for the camp are covered in the camp fee
